Etsy gives you 13 tags per listing, each up to 20 characters including spaces, next to a title capped at 140 characters that Etsy will not let you save if you go over. This is the 13-tag starting set for a sticker shop: die cut stickers, kiss cut sticker, cute sticker pack, water bottle sticker, laptop stickers, waterproof stickers, holographic sticker, matte vinyl sticker, aesthetic stickers, stocking stuffer (seasonal, roughly October to December; use teacher gift sticker the rest of the year), party favor stickers (only if you sell favor-sized packs or sheets), teen girl stickers, book lover sticker. Treat it as a menu rather than a block to paste in whole. No shop sells every format and finish listed here, so keep the tags that describe what you actually mail out and swap the rest. Free, no signup, and every tag counted by hand against the 20-character limit.

What each tag is for

Where the sticker ends up (highest intent)

Sticker buyers rarely search for the artwork. They search for the surface they want to cover, then browse designs until one lands. In the top results I looked at for both of these phrases, most listing titles named the surface directly, usually ahead of anything about the design. That is the browse you want to be in. Watch the count on 'water bottle sticker': it is exactly 20 characters, so there is no room left to make it plural.

Cut method: one shape or a sheet

Die cut and kiss cut are the two ways a vinyl sticker gets made, and buyers who know the difference type it. Die cut means the backing is cut through as well, so you get one loose shape for a laptop lid. Kiss cut means only the vinyl layer is cut and the backing stays whole, which is what a sticker sheet actually is. Both terms show up in live listing titles as production language. Covering both stops a shopper who wants a sheet from bouncing off a listing they read as a single decal. I swapped 'vinyl sticker sheet' out of this set because I could not corroborate it as a phrase people actually type, while 'kiss cut' turns up in real titles.

Material and finish (the objection-handling tags)

This is where sticker buyers get burned. Everyone has had a paper sticker peel off a bottle in the dishwasher, so plenty of shoppers search the material before they look at a single design. 'waterproof stickers' is a defensive search: the shopper is filtering paper out. Matte versus glossy is a genuine style decision, and 'matte vinyl' reads clearly in the listing titles that rank for it. Holographic is a finish people name in the search box and it supports a higher price, so take that slot only if you actually print it.

Style words (the weakest two, kept on purpose)

These are the least evidenced tags in the set and I kept them anyway. Both are broad, and I could not confirm either as a phrase that top listings lead with. What they do is match how someone describes a sticker when no particular design is in their head: cute, aesthetic, a pack of them. Neither will win a search alone. 'cute sticker pack' at least does a second job by telling the shopper the listing is a bundle rather than one decal. If you sell a single clear theme, these are the first two slots to trade away.

Gift buyers (both tags come with a condition)

Stickers are a default cheap gift, so a large share of buyers are not shopping for themselves. Neither of these tags is unconditional, though. 'stocking stuffer' only earns its slot from roughly late October to the end of December and is dead weight the rest of the year; 'teacher gift sticker' is the year-round swap, and it is also exactly 20 characters. 'party favor stickers' needs a different warning. The live results for it are dominated by personalized goody-bag labels and printable favor tags, which is a separate product at a separate price point. Use it only if you sell small favor-sized packs or sheets. On a single die cut decal it buys traffic that will not convert.

Who it is for

Persona tags catch the gift buyer who knows the recipient but not the product. A parent or an aunt types who it is for rather than what it is. Teen girls are one of the most common sticker recipients, and the person doing the searching is usually the adult buying for them, which is worth remembering when you write the description and set the price. Book lovers are the other steady one, and the phrase reads clearly in real listing titles. Note the wording: 'book lover', not any e-reader brand, which would be someone else's mark.

How it works

01

Paste your product

For example: "A sheet of eight matte vinyl plant stickers, kiss-cut so each one peels off the shared backing, sized for a laptop lid or a 32oz water bottle."

02

Pick the closest category

There's no exact category for this niche yet — choose the nearest one and the tags follow your own words instead.

03

Copy your listing

Title, 13 tags, and a description — ready to paste straight into Etsy.

Why not just use ChatGPT?

ChatGPT doesn't know Etsy's rules unless you prompt-engineer them yourself: exactly 13 tags, each ≤20 characters, a title that front-loads your best keyword within the first 40 characters, a description that opens with search-relevant words. ListingLoom builds those constraints into every generation for you.

Questions

How many tags can I put on an Etsy sticker listing?

Thirteen, and each tag can be up to 20 characters including spaces. Twenty is allowed, and two tags in this set use all of it. Fill every slot. Tags can hold letters, numbers and spaces, plus apostrophes and hyphens inside a word, though a tag cannot start with one. Go past 20 characters and Etsy will not accept the tag, so a phrase like 'cute waterproof vinyl stickers' has to be split across two slots.

Do my tags have to match my title word for word?

Not word for word. Do keep your single strongest phrase in both places, though. An exact match between what the shopper typed and your tag counts for more than a partial one, so your main keyword belongs in the title and in a tag. Past that, stop restating the title. Etsy matches phrases and recognizes root words, so a tag can pull searches it does not spell out literally, and the singular plus the plural of the same word wastes a slot. Use the other twelve for the surface, finish, cut method and gift angles that did not fit inside 140 characters.

Can I use character names or brand names in my sticker tags?

No, and stickers are the niche where this gets shops closed. Cartoon and film characters, musicians, sports teams and drinkware brands are all somebody's property, and rights holders run automated sweeps on Etsy. A takedown pulls the listing, and a pattern of them can suspend the shop. Describe the thing generically instead: 'black cat sticker' rather than a named character.

My stickers get views but no sales. Is it my tags?

Probably not. Tags decide whether you show up in search at all. If views are coming in, the tags are doing their job and the problem sits further down: the first photo, the price once shipping is added, or whether the listing makes it obvious the sticker is waterproof vinyl and how big it is. Sticker buyers ask about size and durability constantly. Fix the photo and add a size line before you touch the tags again.
