Etsy Pending Balance: Why a Sale Isn’t in Your Deposit Yet, and When the Money Reaches Your Bank
2026-09-25
A new Etsy seller’s sale money generally becomes eligible for deposit 14 days after the sale. Until then it sits in a Pending balance together with that sale’s fees. Shipping labels, Etsy Ads and listing fees are different: they come out of your Current balance the moment they are charged. That is how a shop that is making sales can show a negative Current balance.
Everything below is quoted from four Etsy Help Center pages read on 25 September 2026. The main one, How to Manage Your Payment Account, was last edited on 15 September 2026, so older screenshots and forum answers may use different labels.
What do Current, Pending and Total mean in your Etsy Payment account?
Current is the money eligible for deposit now: cleared earnings minus refunds, shipping labels and fees charged as you incur them. Pending is recent sales still processing, funds held in reserve, and the fees tied to those sales. Total is the two added together. Etsy deposits from Current, “not your Total balance.”
Find all three in Shop Manager → Finances → Payment account (in the Etsy Seller app: More → Finances → Payment account).
| Balance | What Etsy says it holds |
|---|---|
| Current | “Earnings that have cleared, minus refunds you’ve issued, shipping label purchases, and fees charged at the time you incur them.” Can be negative. |
| Pending | “Earnings from recent sales that are still processing, funds held in reserve, and the fees tied to those earnings.” |
| Total | Current and Pending together. Not what gets deposited. |
The labels differ between Etsy’s own pages. Etsy’s deposit and reconciliation articles still call the depositable amount Available for deposit; its troubleshooting and Payment account pages show it as Ready for deposit under Current. Read them as the same number.
Why is my Etsy Current balance negative when I’m making sales?
Because the two kinds of charge land in different balances. When you make a sale, Etsy says its related fees “stay in your Pending balance” and move to Current with the sale when it clears. Charges not tied to a sale, which Etsy lists as “Etsy Ads, shipping labels, listing fees, and subscriptions,” leave Current the day they are charged.
An illustration (our numbers, not Etsy’s): a new shop sells two items on Monday. Both sales, with their fees, go to Pending for roughly two weeks. On Tuesday the seller, starting from a Current balance of zero, buys two shipping labels on Etsy. Current now shows the label cost as a negative figure, and Pending shows the sales. Nothing is wrong. Etsy says that when pending earnings become current, “they cover that amount before your next deposit goes out.”
Two consequences follow. First, a negative Current balance means no deposit: Etsy says you’ll receive one “after future or pending earnings cover this balance.” Second, the bill: Etsy says that if your total balance is negative at the end of the month, you receive a bill on the first of the following month. Refunds also come out of Current; which fees Etsy hands back when you refund is in do you get Etsy fees back when you refund.
When do Etsy sale funds become available for deposit?
Etsy’s figure for new sellers is 14 days after a sale, “though it may take longer depending on the specific standing of your shop.” Established shops may get Etsy Payments orders available “as soon as the next business day.” Neither page that gives these figures defines an established shop.
The Payment account page lists what can hold money back beyond that wait:
- A security hold on bank details. Adding or updating a bank account can trigger a hold, and the same page says funds are on hold “for 5 days after verification.”
- A Payment account reserve. Etsy calls it “different from a security hold”: a percentage of each new sale of a physical item is set aside until tracking shows the order in transit, or until a default holding period ends. What triggers one is covered in what a sudden spike in Etsy orders does to your shop.
- A risk-based account review, after unusual activity such as “a sudden increase in orders.”
- Invalid billing details. Etsy requires a card on file; if it “has expired or is invalid, you cannot receive deposits.”
- Incomplete regulatory requirements, such as verified IDs and tax documentation. Separately, if a confirm your seller info banner appears on your Shop Manager dashboard, Etsy may hold deposits until you confirm.
What Etsy deposit schedules are there, and which one do new sellers get?
Four: daily, weekly, biweekly or monthly. New sellers default to weekly, every Monday. Change it under Shop Manager → Finances → Payment settings → Deposit schedule. A deposit day that falls on a weekend or holiday moves to the next business day, and Etsy says your bank may then take “up to 1-5 business days” to show it.
The schedule only moves money that is already Current. Choosing daily does not shorten the 14-day wait on a new sale. Sellers who are required to use a Payoneer Payment Account receive deposits from Etsy on Mondays only.
A daily schedule also has a floor. If the amount ready for deposit is below your bank currency’s daily minimum, you get no deposit that day. Etsy says you may still receive it on your schedule, or by selecting Request it now if you are eligible. A selection of the minimums:
| Bank account currency | Daily deposit minimum |
|---|---|
| US dollar | USD 25.00 |
| Canadian dollar | CAD 25.00 |
| Australian dollar | AUD 25.00 |
| British pound | GBP 15.00 |
| Euro | EUR 20.00 |
| Swedish krona | SEK 100.00 |
| Danish krone | DKK 200.00 |
Etsy’s table covers 21 currencies; check yours on its How to Receive Your Etsy Payments Deposit page.
Which countries pay a fee on small Etsy deposits?
Nine, on Etsy’s current list. In Indonesia, Israel, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, the Philippines, South Africa, Türkiye and Vietnam, a deposit above the minimum but below a “fee threshold” is charged a deposit fee, taken from your Payment account when the deposit goes out. Above the threshold there is no fee. Etsy’s own suggestion is a less frequent deposit schedule.
| Country | Deposit minimum | Fee threshold | Deposit fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| Indonesia | IDR 28,000 | IDR 1,400,000 | IDR 28,000 |
| Israel | ILS 7 | ILS 350 | ILS 7 |
| Malaysia | MYR 9 | MYR 400 | MYR 8 |
| Mexico | MXN 40 | MXN 2,000 | MXN 40 |
| Morocco | MAD 20 | MAD 1,000 | MAD 20 |
| Philippines | PHP 100 | PHP 5,000 | PHP 100 |
| South Africa | ZAR 35 | ZAR 1,500 | ZAR 30 |
| Türkiye | TRY 50 | TRY 600 | TRY 42 |
| Vietnam | VND 45,000 | VND 2,300,000 | VND 45,000 |
Each fee threshold is the same figure as that currency’s daily deposit minimum on the same Etsy page. Etsy adds that the fee is subject to VAT where applicable.
Can you get Etsy money faster than your schedule?
Only money that is already ready for deposit, and Etsy’s pages name two routes. Request it now sends eligible funds that meet any minimums on the next business day. Instant transfer, a limited beta for select US sellers, typically arrives within 30 minutes for a fee of 1% of the amount, with a 25¢ minimum and a $1 maximum.
The instant transfer limits, from Etsy’s deposit page:
- One transfer per 24 hours, even if the first was under the limit.
- Minimum transfer $25; maximum $500. Anything above $500 goes out on your regular schedule or with a later request.
- Available every day, including weekends and public holidays.
- Started from Finances → Payment account → Start a transfer → Instant transfer, if Etsy offers it to your shop.
Both start from the amount ready for deposit, so a new seller whose sales are all still Pending has nothing to request yet.
Why doesn’t my Etsy deposit match my Net profit?
They measure different things. Etsy’s Net profit adds up sales, fees, marketing and shipping costs for a period, and “can only be calculated at a minimum of a monthly basis.” A deposit is the Current balance on your deposit day, and it leaves out every sale that isn’t available yet.
To reconcile a deposit, Etsy’s steps use the monthly statement CSV (Finances → Monthly statements → Generate CSV; Etsy emails you when the file is ready):
- Find your most recent deposit in the CSV.
- Sum every Fee and Tax amount from that deposit to the present.
- Sum the sales that are available for deposit. A sale that isn’t shows when its funds will be available in the Info column; leave those out.
- Subtract the fees and taxes from the available sales.
That reconciliation article was last edited in February 2023, before the Current and Pending labels appeared on the Payment account page. The Info column dates each sale either way.
A check for a deposit that hasn’t arrived
- Pending or Current? On a new shop, a sale under 14 days old is generally still Pending. The CSV’s Info column gives the date.
- Current below zero? Labels, ads and listing fees charged since your last deposit come out of Current straight away. Pending sales cover them as they clear, before the next deposit.
- Deposit day. Weekly means Monday for new sellers, moved to the next business day on a weekend or holiday, then up to 1-5 business days at the bank.
- Daily minimum. On a daily schedule, a balance below your currency’s minimum (USD 25) skips that day.
- Bank details changed? Etsy holds funds for 5 days after it verifies a new account.
- Card on file. An expired or invalid card blocks deposits.
- Notices. Etsy says it emails you and posts in Shop Manager if a reserve is placed; a confirm your seller info banner can hold deposits too.
Where the listings come in
Nothing in a listing’s text appears among the reasons above: the wait runs on your shop’s standing, your bank details and your schedule. What you can work on while the money clears is the next batch of listings. ListingLoom drafts a title inside Etsy’s 140 characters with the main keyword in the first 40, 13 tags of up to 20 characters, and a description. The bulk generator takes up to 25 products per submission. Check each generated description against the item before you publish.
