Featured Listings on Your Etsy Shop Home: Four Slots, a Queue, and What Etsy Says About Search
2026-10-05
Every Etsy shop can feature four active listings on its shop homepage. You pick them with the star icon in Shop Manager’s Listings page, and any star beyond the fourth joins a queue. None of the nine Etsy Help articles read for this post links featuring to search placement. The shop-level item Etsy does name for search is a logo.
Every rule below is quoted from Etsy’s Help Center, read on 5 October 2026: How to Customize Your Shop’s Appearance, Etsy Plus: Advanced Shop Customization, What is Etsy Plus?, How to Add a Shop Announcement and Shop Title, How to Use the Etsy Search Visibility Page, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for Shop and Listing Pages, How to Edit Your Shop’s About Section, How to Use Etsy Stats for Your Shop, and the Shop Stats Glossary. Where two of them disagree, both are quoted.
How do you feature listings in your Etsy shop?
Go to Shop Manager, choose Listings, and select the star icon on the listings you want. Etsy’s appearance article says featuring is “a way to showcase 4 listings you especially want shoppers to see when they visit your public shop homepage,” and that “you can only feature active listings.” Changes “take effect in your shop immediately.”
To set the order, find Featured listings in the Listing status sidebar, select Manage, drag the listings into place, and select Done. The same row can be edited from the Shop Home editor (Shop Manager, Sales channels, the pencil icon next to your shop): the Etsy Plus customization article describes adding a Featured area there, where “Etsy pulls your most recent listings” and Edit queue lets you add, delete or rearrange them.
A featured listing is not a copy. Etsy says a buyer “can choose the listing image in the featured row or in its place with the rest of your items to get to the same listing page.” Featuring adds no second URL and leaves the listing where it was in your grid.
What happens if you star more than four listings?
The extras wait in a queue. Etsy’s wording: “Choosing more than four items adds them to a queue so they’ll be displayed if the items before them get removed from your shop.” Etsy does not say how a queued listing’s place in line is set.
The appearance article does not say whether a listing that sells out counts as removed. “Sold” and “sell out” appear zero times in it. What it does say is that only active listings can be featured, and a listing that sells its last unit is no longer for sale unless it renews (automatic renewal is Etsy’s default setting; the mechanics, including the quantity reset on variations, are in what happens when an Etsy listing sells out). If you feature a one-of-a-kind item, check the row after it sells.
Do featured listings help your Etsy search ranking?
Etsy does not say they do. “Feature” and “featured” appear zero times on Etsy’s Search Visibility page, its SEO for Shop and Listing Pages article, and its Shop Stats Glossary. The Search Visibility page names three areas that affect placement (your listings, your shop, your customer service), and under your shop it names one item: a logo.
The logo sentence appears in two places. The Search Visibility page says “your shop should have a logo” and “if your shop is not complete, your listings’ search visibility may be impacted.” The appearance article, the same page that explains featuring, says: “Not having a logo may impact your visibility in Etsy search.” It makes no such statement about featured listings, banners or listing order. The customer-service side of that page is covered in does customer service affect Etsy search ranking.
For Google, Etsy’s SEO article lists four shop-page elements: the tagline (up to 55 characters), the About section, images and video, and shop policies. The featured row is not among them. Shop sections, the other shop-home feature sellers ask about for SEO, are covered in do Etsy shop sections help your SEO.
Where does the featured row appear on your shop homepage?
Etsy’s pages disagree. The appearance article (last edited 5 May 2026) says featured items “will appear just above your shop announcement.” The announcement article (last edited 12 June 2025) says the announcement “appears under the listings on your shop homepage.” Read literally, that puts the row below your grid. Check your public shop homepage.
How does the rest of your shop’s listing order work?
Under Shop Manager, Settings, Your shop, Listing order offers Custom or Most recent. Custom is set in the Shop Home editor with Rearrange items, and a Move to page menu on each listing moves it between pages. Etsy says a rearrangement can take “up to 10 minutes” to show on your public shop homepage.
Two rules decide what Custom does over time. “When listings are renewed, they’ll go back to their custom location,” and “new listings go to the top of your shop.” So a renewal keeps a listing’s place, and a newly published listing lands above the arrangement you set until you move it. What a renewal does in Etsy search (a small boost that lasts hours to days) is a separate rule, covered in does renewing an Etsy listing boost search ranking.
What does Etsy Plus change about featured listings?
Etsy Plus costs $10 USD a month, per the What is Etsy Plus? article (last edited 4 August 2026). For the featured row, its customization article (last edited 10 July 2025) adds a mixed grid: “1 large listing or shop section with 4 smaller items or shop sections to the right.” The standard grid is four items, “all sized the same.”
The pages disagree on shop sections. The customization article says “all sellers have the option to feature 4 listings or shop sections.” What is Etsy Plus? lists “the ability to feature specific listings or shop sections” among the Plus-only tools, and the appearance article for every seller mentions listings only.
| Etsy page | What it says about featuring | Last edited |
|---|---|---|
| How to Customize Your Shop’s Appearance | “4 listings”; the steps star listings only | 5 May 2026 |
| Etsy Plus: Advanced Shop Customization | “All sellers have the option to feature 4 listings or shop sections” | 10 July 2025 |
| What is Etsy Plus? | “The ability to feature specific listings or shop sections” listed as a Plus tool | 4 August 2026 |
If you cancel Plus, Etsy says Plus-only customization is removed at the end of the subscription cycle and “your shop banner and featured items will default to standard options.” Images uploaded for the Plus layouts “will not be saved” if you later subscribe again.
What don’t Etsy’s pages say about featured listings?
Three questions have no answer in the nine articles read for this post. Each was checked by searching the article text for the term, not by skimming.
- Whether featuring affects search. “Feature” and “featured” appear zero times on the Search Visibility page, the SEO article and the Shop Stats Glossary.
- How the row performs. The Shop Stats Glossary does not mention featured listings, and the two mentions of “feature” in How to Use Etsy Stats for Your Shop are about Offsite Ads and Etsy Support. Neither stats page describes a number for the featured row.
- What happens to the row when a featured item sells out. The queue rule names items that “get removed from your shop” and does not define removal.
The second gap is the practical one: nothing in Etsy’s stats documentation tells you how many shoppers used the featured row, so a claim that featuring lifts sales cannot be checked against any Etsy stat.
A featured-row check
- Open Listings and count your stars. Four are displayed; any extras wait in the queue. Set the display order under Featured listings, Manage.
- Feature listings that can stay active. Only active listings can be featured, and a one-of-a-kind item is no longer for sale once it sells unless it renews.
- Look at your public shop homepage. Etsy’s two articles place the row differently relative to the announcement, so check where it sits on yours.
- Check that your shop has a logo. It is the shop-level item Etsy’s Search Visibility page names for search, and the appearance article says not having one “may impact your visibility.”
- If you use Custom listing order, place new listings by hand. They go to the top of your shop; renewed listings return to their custom spot.
Where the listings come in
The featured row picks four listings to put in front of shop visitors. What each of those listings says is the part ListingLoom works on: the generator drafts a title inside Etsy’s 140 characters with the main keyword in the first 40, 13 tags of up to 20 characters, and a description. The bulk generator takes up to 25 products per submission.
